Language fMRI preparation (YNHH)

Sample only

This page includes the 4 steps to prepare the patient for our language fMRI.

Step 1: Review fMRI Consent (webpage): Donate data to improve fMRI

Why?

  • We know fMRIs like today’s work because patients donated their data to research

  • The patient’s data will help us better understand how fMRI maps language

  • This will let us improve fMRI and patient care

What happens?

  • The patient only consents to donating their data

  • The data will be anonymized then used in research by our team

  • Consent is optional: it is not required for the clinical fMRI to go ahead

Required: It is important you understand the task instructions.

Step 2: Review instructions for fMRI task “Visual object naming.”

Look at pictures of objects, and think of their name and something you can do with them.

Step 3: Review instructions for fMRI task “Verbal responsive naming.”

Read a short description of an object, and think of its name.

Step 4: Review instructions for fMRI task “Auditory responsive naming.”

Listen to a short description of an object, and think of its name.
